8 Chifley is one of Sydney’s greenest buildings and marked our first collaboration with Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Lippmann Partnership in Australia.

Arup came to Australia in 1963 to undertake the structural design of the Sydney Opera House. We now employ over 2,000 staff working from ten offices across the country and have developed a diverse practice through delivering a wide range of projects for public and private sector clients. Our desire to shape a better world ensures our clients receive smart design ideas with a social purpose, which will have a positive influence for current and future generations. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where our offices are located and where our projects take place. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and to all Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. We recognise and celebrate their cultures, traditions and protocols.

Arup established its Western Australia presence in Perth in 1969. For more than 50 years we have played a significant role in engineering and planning the State’s buildings, precincts and infrastructure which now make up the vital transport and services networks.

In the 1970s Arup became renowned as the leading local structural engineering firm and the portfolio of projects grew quickly – Allendale Square, Murdoch University, 256 Adelaide Terrace, Burswood Casino, Bankwest Tower, SGIO offices, the Bell Tower and Raffles apartments.

Our civil engineering services for North Whitfords were followed by the East Perth Redevelopment; the first highways project was Kwinana Freeway from Safety Bay to Mandurah; the northern line rail projects Stirling, Whitfords, Greenwood, followed by the sinking of the Subiaco rail line and station. Arup also worked in the oil and gas sector with the Wandoo offshore platform construction in Bunbury.

We continue contributing to city shaping projects through engineering, planning and advisory services such as Elizabeth Quay Pedestrian Bridge, the expansion of Perth Airport’s international and domestic terminals and supporting road infrastructure with commendations for our operational readiness work for  Domestic Terminals 1 and 2.

Other significant projects include the multi-award winning Optus Stadium and Scarborough Foreshore Redevelopment, the Victoria Park Drive modifications, the Morley-Ellenbrook Line and other METRONET projects, the Great Northern Highway upgrade, Mitchell Freeway widening  and Kwinana Freeway Smart Freeways projects.

Our engineering design also helps deliver solutions for major energy sectors, including the Gorgon LNG and Ichthys LNG project.
