Ranked 4th on the Economist’s 2008 list of the world’s most livable cities, Western Australia’s capital city prides itself on being clean, welcoming and relaxed. Famed for its diverse landscapes WA boasts beautiful beaches, internationally acclaimed wine regions, dramatic gorges and seemingly all-year-round sunshine.
The mining, oil and gas industries form the backbone of WA’s economy. As a centre of excellence for offshore engineering for the firm worldwide, Arup Perth supports the oil and gas industry across Australia and internationally. Its work includes the Darwin LNG site for the INPEX Ichthys project, the Maari Wellhead Platform in offshore New Zealand, and reaches as far afield as Turkmenistan.
Arup has helped to significantly shape Perth city both above ground and below, designing many CBD buildings and much of its supporting infrastructure. Some of Arup’s landmark buildings include Bank West Tower, Burswood Casino, the Australian Stock Exchange building and more recently the Convention Centre and iconic riverfront Belltower. Arup has also worked on three of Perth's four major metropolitan railway lines.
For the refurbishment of a 100 year old heritage-listed flour mill, Arup collaborated with the East Perth Redevelopment Authority (EPRA) to achieve a range of sustainable design features and to minimise the overall environmental impact of the project.
Arup’s technical innovation is shown in the provision of infrastructure and services to remote communities in WA.
In May 2009 Arup celebrated 40 years in Perth, making it the firm's second-oldest office in Australia.
