Sydney

Australia's commercial and tourist hub is blessed with a stunning location in New South Wales.

Arup has always had a special relationship with Sydney. It was Arup's work realising the design of Sydney Opera House in the 1960s that brought it international prominence, and Arup remains involved in building upgrades even today. Arup Sydney is a fully multidisciplinary design office.

Arup was involved in most of the stadia commissioned for the 2000 summer Olympics, including the Sydney Aquatics Centre, the Olympic Tennis Centre, the International Athletics Stadium and Sydney Football Stadium. Building on these strengths the design of the National Aquatics Centre (better known as the Water Cube) for the 2008 Beijing Olympics was led from our Sydney office.

The firm's work on 30 The Bond set new standards in sustainable design in the commercial sector, while its work stabilising the façade of 71 Macquarie Street showed its specialist façade engineers in action.

Arup projects range from the transport planning for Sydney Olympic Park, planned to become a dynamic and diverse township by 2025, to CarriageWorks, a new performing arts space created out of historic railway carriages.
