Guangzhou

Guangzhou, also known as Canton, is the capital of Guangdong Province in the southern part of the People’s Republic of China. It is the powerhouse of the province and the centre of development, linking neighbouring cities. It is one and a half hours by train from Hong Kong.

Arup projects include the stunning Guangzhou TV Tower, which, at 610m high, required sophisticated total design approaches to architecture, structural engineering and fire safety. Arup is the lead consultant to the project. Another of the firm’s signature project is Guangzhou International Finance Center, also known as the Guangzhou West Tower, a 430m tall mixed-use building with offices and a hotel, which features a unique triangular form with doubly curved elevations.

The firm was also commissioned to design the new Guangdong Museum, one of the “Ten Works” of Guangdong Province and one of its three landmark cultural facilities.

Arup is now commissioned by the city government for the total design of the 100,000 m2 underground space and plaza to the south of the TV Tower.
