The capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast is the seat of devolved government and legislative assembly in Northern Ireland. It remains a centre for industry, as well as the arts, higher education and business. Belfast city centre has been regenerated and expanded in recent years.
In Belfast since the year 2000, Arup has established a well developed and growing business working across the province to enhance the environment and help provide much needed infrastructure.
Architectural gems such as the Grand Opera House and its recent extension have benefited from Arup’s acoustic and other specialist skills. Other Arup projects include the 28 storey Obel Development on Donegal Quay next to the River Lagan which will be Ireland’s tallest residential building.
By September 2009 former Heineken Cup winners Ulster Rugby will benefit from a new purpose built spectator stand with hospitality suites at their Ravenhill ground the design of which has been undertaken by Arup.
Arup’s strategic infrastructure projects include the upgrade and widening of the M1/Westlink and M2 motorways around Belfast, connecting the city centre, port and airport and has long suffered from major congestion.
