Sheffield

At the heart of South Yorkshire, Sheffield was the first UK office to open outside of London. The Sheffield office has become embedded in the regeneration of the former industrial city over recent years, continuously contributing to the region’s transformation with projects such as the exciting New Retail Quarter development.

Arup’s projects in and around Sheffield are diverse. The Environmental Energy Technology Centre is an innovative zero carbon, hydrogen-based demonstration project that Arup developed the technical concept and undertook detailed technical and economic modelling for.

With a vast experience in education, the Sheffield office holds a wealth of knowledge in schools, colleges and universities. Recent projects include Jessop West, a low energy redevelopment at the University of Sheffield – with a unique double skin façade has never been used in the UK before, and designing an entire new campus for the University of York where Arup is developing a strategy to drive down carbon emissions.

Sheffield’s sustainability team is continuously influencing the national sustainability agenda, and in particular has driven the direction of further education through recommendations the Learning Skills Council has adopted from the report “A route to Zero Carbon FE Colleges”.
