Education Executive Agency and Tax Office

  • Costs reduced by integrating structures and services into one package.
  • Shape of the building is optimised on the basis of wind studies.
  • New landmark on the Groningen skyline.

This PPP (Public Private Partnership) project involves the building of a new office for the Education Executive Agency and Tax Office (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs and the Belastingdienst) in Groningen. The project comprises 46,000m2 of office space and a single-storey underground car park that provides spaces for 675 cars. A public city garden is situated on top of it. The 85m high office tower will form a real landmark on the Groningen skyline.

Bats and wind studies

The new building is being built on the current Education Executive Agency and Tax Office site. Immediately next to it is an historic wood which is home to a rare species of bat. Bats are very sensitive to change in their environment.

The shape of the office building has been optimised on the basis of wind studies, in order to minimise the change in wind conditions in the wood.

Sustainability

The building, designed by UNStudio, is one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings in the Netherlands, particularly in the high-rise building category.

It is economical with energy and water use and the greatest possible use is made of environmentally-friendly materials.
