Shenzhen Metro Line 4 is a 20.5km double-track urban railway with a total of 15 stations, running from Futian Station located at the boundary between Hong Kong and Shenzhen at Huanggang area to Longhua New Town in Shenzhen.
In May 2005, the MTR Corporation signed an agreement with the Shenzhen Government for the investment, construction and operation of the whole Metro Line 4 for 30 years.
Phase 1 of the project comprises a 4.5km section between Huanggang and Shaoniangong, and commenced service in 2004.
The design consortium of Arup and Beijing Urban Engineering Design & Research Institute was awarded the preliminary design contract and later the detailed design contracts. Arup is acting as the lead consultant.
Phase 2, currently under construction, comprises a 6km underground section with two underground stations, and a 10km elevated section with eight stations. Works include alignment design, station and depot planning, station and viaduct structural design, long-span viaducts, building services, railway systems, project management, temporary traffic management, construction planning as well as risks assessment.
Arup has provided services for all aspects of the extension – the underground section, elevated section, train depot, trackwork and railway systems.
