The China Central Television Headquarters, CCTV, has won first place in the Best Building Sites category of the Wallpaper Design Awards.
Wallpaper wrote, ‘The Chinese National Television HQ was always going to challenge conventional ideas of the skyscraper’ and that ‘Dutch architects OMA had opted to create a striking form.’
Arup provided structural, geotechnical, security, fire, mechanical, electrical and public health engineering services.
The magazine also wrote, ‘Arup started work in 2004; 98,000 tonnes of steel later the site boasts an elegant, part leaning, part-cantilevered frame’ and that, ‘ Ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games, many organisations are erecting sparkling new HQs in Beijing. But, when it’s completed later this year the CCTV building is sure to stand out.’
