Arup is one of the partners for this year’s World Architectural Festival (WAF) taking place in Barcelona from the 22 to 24 October 2008.
The three day Festival will celebrate the work, concerns and aspirations of the international architectural community.
The highlight of the Festival will be The World Architectural Festival Awards, the largest architectural awards programme in the world covering 96 building types, in 16 categories.
Arup is sponsoring the transport category which includes airports, bridges, bus and coach stations, car parks, cycle facilities and railway/underground stations.
An international jury including Arup’s Cecil Balmond, as well as internationally renowned architects Zaha Hadid, Richard Meier and Norman Foster will shortlist the best entries from architect practices across the globe.
Around 256 will be short listed and will present their work to live juries and audiences at the Festival, competing against each other to win a highly sought after category winner title. The 16 category winners will then go forward to compete against each other in front of an international super-jury, including Cecil Balmond, to win the ‘best in show’ prize, the first architectural Prix de Barcelona.
All award entries will be exhibited at the Festival in a gallery modelled on the Barcelona grid system and be permanently available to view on the official Festival website once the Festival has ended.
