Dublin Conference Centre scoops two international awards

14 May 2008

The Dublin Convention Centre recently received two international awards: the 2007 European Leisure Deal of the Year from Project Finance magazine; and the 2007 Public Private Partnership Deal of the Year, awarded by Infrastructure Journal.

"Both awards celebrate a deal which has been described as unique, complicated and challenging", explains Charles Abel Smith of Arup's Transaction Advice group. "It includes a payment mechanism where the demand risk was transferred to the private sector. This required a significant amount of due diligence, provided by Arup."

Arup has been technical and commercial advisor to the lenders funding the project) since the bidding phase. We are now working closely with Arup's Dublin office to monitor the progress of construction on behalf of the lenders.

The lead project sponsor and equity investor for the development is Treasury Holdings and the The commissioning authority is the Irish Office of Public Works (OPW).

The dramatic and iconic convention centre, designed by architect Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates, will occupy a prime location on the banks of the River Liffey.

The building is scheduled to open to the public in 2010.
