Arup exhibiting at Salone Internazionale del Mobile

06 Apr 2010

To mark the 49th National Edition and the 32nd International Edition of the Salone Internazionale del MobileArup Italy has designed an exhibition stand to be displayed in the exhibition's Fuorisalone area.

Arch. Mauricio Cardenas and Arup collaborated on the creation of the 'Terra(cotta)box': an architecturally inspired structure that uses decorative ornamental materials.

The structure is made up of a single steel frame from which terracotta shelving blocks hang. The cubic design is in essence a defined space, but at the same time completely permeable. The shape was chosen for its geometric perfection: the steel frame is suspended above the ground by invisible supports, giving a metaphysical effect. In line with the original concept, the joints within the box are designed to disappear inside the frame.
