American Council of Engineering Companies awards

18 Apr 2011

Three Arup projects have received 2011 Engineering Excellence Honor Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).

They include a LEED® Platinum-certified building at Yale University and a convention center and park in Incheon, Korea.

Judges based their selections on uniqueness, originality and technical, economic and social value.

The ACEC praised the new Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies for its environmentally friendly design. The building incorporates geothermal and photovoltaic energy and natural stormwater filtration, among other sustainable features. The ACEC's official award statement called the project a "model for institutional sustainability."

The jury selected New Songdo City’s 101-acre Central Park and Canal project for its water management and sustainable land development solutions. The city’s convention center stood out for its innovative structural design and energy-savings strategies.
