Arup principal Fiona Cousins has been elected to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) board of directors in the ‘Designer of Buildings’ seat.

A mechanical engineer with over twenty years of experience, Fiona was a founding board member of the USGBC’s New York chapter, for which she subsequently served as chair. She has led multidisciplinary Arup teams for a number of ambitious, highly sustainable buildings, including the LEED® Platinum Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and Princeton University Frick Chemistry Laboratory.

Founded in 1993, the USGBC has played a key role in raising the profile of sustainable building design around the world. Through its LEED rating system and initiatives such as educational programming and industry outreach, it is a major force in making environmentally responsible design part of mainstream practice.
