On Tuesday, 8 November 2011, Arup won the award for Best Planning Ideas (Small Project) at the NSW Planning Institute Awards for Excellence for our work on the Nowra CBD Urban Design Master Plan.
The project entailed the development of a 25-year vision for the CBD of Nowra, the largest coastal town on the south coast of New South Wales, to attract private sector investment, increase the liveability of the town and strengthen the sense of place and pride of the local community.
The judges recognised the many challenges posed by the revitalisation of Nowra and felt that the project team’s use of graphical representation of conversions from empty space to civic open spaces will aid continued stakeholder engagement.
The 2011 NSW Awards were presented at a gala dinner to coincide with World Town Planning Day, at Doltone House in Pyrmont. Arup now moves on to the National Awards.
The Awards for Excellence Program recognises innovation, leadership and excellence in the planning profession and stimulates the public awareness of excellent projects and emphasises the importance of good planning in the community.
