The mayor of Santander, Iñigo de la Serna, officially opened the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championship event on 11 September.

With 95 countries, 900 ships, and more than 1,200 participants, this ten-day international competition will determine the shortlisted for competing in the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio.

Over the last seven years, we have been carrying out a comprehensive regeneration strategy for a 60ha site that will become the Port of Santander’s new seafront.

We also carried out full SMEP and fire engineering services for the Elite Sailing Training Centre. The roof is being used as a public space, from which Regattas can be viewed during the world championship event, with a pedestrian access ramp from ground level.

For Santander city council´s management team, the reorganization of the seafront represents an opportunity to boost one of the most valuable areas of the region.

Our office in Madrid put together a team of over 25 professionals, including architects, engineers, lawyers, economists, real estate specialists, landscapers and sociologists.

Through coordinating both public and private initiatives, this waterfront regeneration has created a unique model capable of meeting the requirements of different users, combining the port’s activities with the leisure aspects of the Santander bay.
