Arup secures four year partnership with Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR).

Arup has signed a four year contract to provide programme management support services to help GTR to meet its franchise obligations and achieve its business plan in relation to the Thameslink Programme. A core support team will work closely with GTR’s Thameslink team to aid the integration of train operating activities alongside Network Rail and Siemens, key partners in the Thameslink Programme.

The government-sponsored £6.5bn Thameslink Programme will deliver enormous benefits to passengers including improved connections and more reliable journeys. Key milestones include the delivery and introduction of the new Class 700 trains on Thameslink and Great Northern services, being manufactured by Siemens, the redevelopment of London Bridge station by Network Rail and the eventual introduction of 24 trains per hour operating across a range of destinations in London.

This is an extremely challenging and exciting programme which will transform the lives of thousands of the rail travelling public. It includes open heart surgery at London Bridge, a new heart at Farringdon, a widening of the main artery between Blackfriars and St Pancras, and a blood transfusion of new trains. It is therefore great to welcome Arup on board bringing their considerable breadth and depth of knowledge and skills across the mix of technological, process and people issues we will face, and I am already enjoying working with them. ” Keith Wallace Govia Thameslink Railway’s Programme Director

The new GTR franchise will be the largest in the country and will have to help successfully deliver the Thameslink Programme. This complex programme comprises of a number of projects that each bring their own technical, operational, cultural and people challenges. I am delighted that we have been chosen as GTR’s partner and we will work together to ensure the smooth and successful delivery of the Programme. ” Stefan Sanders Stefan Sanders Principal | Rail Advisory – Australasia Leader
