Arup celebrates wins in two categories at the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards.

At the ceremony on 08 October, Arup’s work for the London Aquatics Centre took home the prize for a major building over £50m and the Llanelli Green Infrastructure Project took the prize for civil engineering up to £10m.

Having been originally opened for the London Olympic Games in 2012, the London Aquatics Centre was subsequently repurposed for legacy users and was unveiled in March 2014. The project showcases the best of British engineering and building, and during the Games was home to 100 world Olympic and Paralympic records. The constrained nature of the site, as well as the highly sustainable and complex design brief, was ambitious and required meticulous planning and project management, making the project well-deserving of the BCI accolade.

The Llanelli Green Infrastructure Project, which received the award for Civil Engineering up to £10m, is part of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Waters (DCWW) Rainscape initiative. The project demonstrates a unique retrofit approach to flood risk management and pollution reduction now being implemented by DCWW. The approach taken differs from the traditional flooding and pollution alleviation approach and is the first of its kind in the UK.

Arup was also shortlisted for awards for a further eight projects over six categories including BIM Project Application Award, International Building Project of the Year, Building Project of the Year (up to £10m) and Building Project of the Year (£10m to £50m).

The BCI Awards are an established and coveted industry accolade recognising overall excellence in the delivery of building and civil engineering infrastructure projects. With a judging process like no other, these awards carry unrivalled gravitas and recognise excellence across a range of disciplines.
