On 12 November Minister of Culture Jet Bussemaker gives the signal for the start of construction to the new collection centre of EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam.

The new building will enable EYE to store, restore and digitalise its film collection using the latest techniques. The building includes a modern expert centre, in which an international professional audience of scientists, film makers and students can look into the collections.

The collection centre is a design by Cepezed Architects and Arup is responsible for the integrated design of building physics, building services, fire engineering and acoustics. The programme facilitates film storage by freezing, ateliers and a special dryer to save films that are considered lost. A multifunctional room with 35 seats will provide space for specialist projections, discussions and workshops on conservation, restoration, digitalisation and presenting the collection, which counts over 40,000 films. The opening of the collection centre is expected early 2016.
