October 1 marked the groundbreaking of JetBlue’s Terminal 5i at JFK International Airport in New York City.
After the successful completion of Terminal 5, which opened in late 2008, Arup was asked to provide the same services (airport planning and design management, along with building services engineering) for the expansion.
The new 150,000ft2 space will allow the airline to consolidate its international operations at JFK into a single terminal. One of the project’s primary challenges was ensuring that the new space would work well with the existing facility while planning ahead for possible future expansions.
