The results of Arup’s research on the use of Additive Manufacturing for the production of metal structural elements for buildings and infrastructure is to be featured in the exhibition Making a difference / A difference in making in the Bozar Centre of Fine Arts in Brussels.

The exhibition explores the added value of Additive Manufacturing, also called 3D Printing – a ground-breaking manufacturing technology likely to be critical in the next decades for the lives of individuals, our society and the environment.

Arup has created a design method for the development of metal structural elements to be produced with Additive Manufacturing. In the exhibition Arup presents the different optimisation steps of a structural metal node, of which the latest version was produced this month.

The overall exhibition looks at 3D Printing with both the eyes of fascination and a deeper observation of its consequences. Visitors are invited to discover a production technology that allows us to make things differently, and also ponder how it can help individuals, enable social changes and positively contribute to the environment.

Curated by Marta Malé-Alemany and produced by Materialise, ‘Making a difference / A difference in making’ features 3D-printed works of art, design, engineering and scientific fields by renowned artists, designers, public initiatives and prestigious research institutions, as well as unknown innovative makers.

The exhibition will run from 24 April to 7 June in Bozar Centre of Fine Arts, Brussels, and will travel in the months to follow to other exhibition venues around the world.
