Arup has joined buildingSMART International’s Strategic Advisory Council, strengthening the effort to drive transformation in the built environment.

With the industry’s growing need for neutral and open standards for Building Information Modelling (BIM), the International Strategic Advisory Council (SAC) aims to foster better interoperability between stakeholders.

Arup’s representatives on the Council are Tristram Carfrae and UK Buildings BIM Champion Michael Beaven, who will advise buildingSMART on standards and compliance programs, positioning in the industry, gaining engagement for standards development and deployment, and also on the international chapter strategy.

Arup believes that full implementation and adoption of open BIM is vitally important to the built environment sector and we are excited to play a strategic role in driving forward its implementation. There is a real challenge in the built environment industry to make the connection to a standardised data structure. Having involvement at the very top level will help to shape strategy, influence direction, help to determine priorities and focus, and will also go a long way to providing more credibility to the whole IFC debate. ” Tristram Carfrae Arup Tristram Carfrae Deputy Chair

Joining the Council further reinforces Arup’s commitment to realising a common view of BIM, with the firm implementing initiatives across the global business including the recent launch of their BIM Maturity Measure model
