28 July 2015

Arup’s Connect Out group - the firm’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) network – marched for the first time at Pride in London.

This is the first time Arup has officially participated in a pride parade in the UK, and the first time an engineering or construction firm has marched in London.

Arup led the ‘Equality in Construction’ walking group, where the firm was accompanied by staff from Balfour Beatty, Lend Lease and Amec Foster Wheeler.

Having staff walking at Pride in London is real landmark for Arup and demonstrates our commitment to equality. Our Connect Out network was set up by the employees, for the employees, which allows us to participate and lead on activity that positions us very forefront of diversity issues in the industry. ”

Pride in London is a week-long festival, from 20th to 28th June, celebrating all aspects of the LGBT+ community. This makes it one of the city’s biggest one-day events, second only to the London Marathon, and one of the world’s biggest LGBT+ celebrations.

Arup is committed to promoting diversity in the workplace and is part of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions Programme. Formed in 1989, Stonewall is the largest LGBT equality organisation in the UK and Europe. Arup was presented with a Star Performer Network Group award by Stonewall in 2014.
