The rapid pace of urban development across China is providing vast opportunities to deliver Smart City solutions across the country. Shaping smarter urban design is among the key priorities for both the central and local governments and Chinese companies have already been involved in this area with many noticeable successes.

To drive even greater advances in Smart Cities solutions for China and beyond, Arup, iSoftStone and Venturous have agreed a strategic partnership. The deal will allow the partners to consolidate their intellectual leadership and complement their individual capabilities in developing cutting-edge solutions for critical urban issues such as efficiency of transport and utilities, liveability of urban spaces, and health and social requirements for aging populations.

British companies have a distinguished track record in enhancing the built environment in terms of technical know-how and governance, so combining this expertise with the technical excellence and local knowledge of Chinese partners makes for a formidable combination.

The three parties intend to set up a “Mayors’ Think Tank” to disseminate advanced ideas and propositions in sustainable and smart cities development at a strategic level with a global perspective. Other collaborators may be involved to further enhance both the impact and scope of the Think Tank initiative.

The partners will also pursue projects that warrant a collaborative approach to deliver cutting-edge smart-cities solutions that require international perspectives, local knowledge and creative approaches.
