Cycle track between Tsuen Wan
and Tuen Mun

  • Investigation to recommend cycle route and location of supporting facilities.
  • 22km long route to connect existing cycle tracks.

To enhance connectivity and recreational value of the cycle tracks in the New Territories, the Hong Kong government has planned to provide a comprehensive cycle track network by connecting existing individual sections. The proposed network comprises two sections: Tsuen Wan-Tuen Mun section and Tuen Mun-Ma On Shan section.

Arup has been appointed to undertake an investigation study on the Tsuen Wan-Tuen Mun section. The investigation will explore, advise and recommend a proposed route and supporting facility areas through a detailed assessment of alternatives. Consideration will be given to traffic and planning, environment, cost and programme, archaeology and landscape, social, commercial and sustainability aspects.

The 22km-long, 4m-wide cycle track will mainly run along the coastline with the provision of a 4m-wide footway plus a 2m-wide planter. To enhance the recreational value and accessibility of the cycle track for the public’s enjoyment, several supporting facility areas will also be designed along the route to provide landscaped sitting-out areas, refreshment kiosks, water-based facilities and tourist information kiosks.

The construction programme in three stages is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2011 for completion at the end of 2017.
