Forum Trabzon Shopping Centre is a development located in Trabzon, a burgeoning city in north-east Turkey on the coast of Black Sea. Trabzon is also home of the busiest airport in region.
Arup provided structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services with civil and infrastructure engineering design. The firm also provided executive local architectural services including support to the lead architect during the design, tender and construction period and site assistance.

The Shopping Centre´s scheme is anchored by a hypermarket and a large number of fashion stores, department stores, an electronic and a sports store.
The spectacular landscape of the public area is suitable for festivities, concerts, markets and sport events. With a total area of 49,200m2, the centre adds a new dimension to the retail market in the region.
Lighthouse feature
The lighthouse illumination system has been designed to prevent misguiding planes and ships while producing a realistic effect for visitors. An active lighting scenario has been designed to create a rotating lighthouse illumination effect inside the mall and through the skylights in the food court.
Large skylights were created to allow daylight inside the mall areas and enable the visitors to see the sky. This design also requires less energy for illumination dur the day.
Central location
The centre is located on a waterfront site surrounded by the city, airport, university campus and the Black Sea. A main road and the regional coastal express motorway run close to the site. Due to its easily-accessible location, Forum Trabzon attracts local visitors and those from neighbouring towns and cities
