NEO

  • Regenerating Brussels’ Heysel Plateau into a destination for international events, shopping, leisure, culture and politics.
  • A structured approach for delivery on flexibility, integration, interaction, simultaneous working and robustness.

Economic recovery

NEO is a project to regenerate the Heysel Plateau in the north of Brussels. By regenerating a neglected area, hosting international events and offering facilities for shopping, leisure, culture and politics, NEO aims to promote Brussels as a truly international city.

“NEO is a unique opportunity for Brussels and its inhabitants, and has exceptional potential for economic recovery and the creation of new employment”

- Freddy Thielemans, Mayor of the City of Brussels.

Arup’s services on the project include transport planningenergy and water, masterplanningsustainability consulting and civil engineering.

In collaboration with Fakton, Arup is working as advisor to the design team from KCAP Architects&Planners

Contemporary vision

The site’s setting and history of public space and leisure facilities make it a potential common ground for the diverse inhabitants of Brussels and the region. The development also creates opportunities to provide a large green space within the city.

"The complexity of Brussels’ urban fabric reflects a diverse collection of districts, language communities, influences and traditions. The Plateau du Heysel now requires a contemporary vision where Brussels, Belgium and Europe come together in one place"

– Kees Christiaanse, founder of KCAP.
