Meet our Apprentices

Joel Pease

Arup really showed that everyone is involved in all the projects and there is no hierarchy, everyone is equal.

Ashleigh Davies

Arup appealed to me because as well as offering to fund a degree they had many different disciplines: mechanical, electrical, acoustics, sustainability and fire, to name just a few. I liked the fact that I would be able to work closely with professionals in these areas and see what interested me and what didn’t.

Tom Keeley

The company cares about you and your development and will give you all the support you need to be successful during and after your apprenticeship.

Taking your career forward with Arup

Our aim to provide fulfilling and rewarding careers demonstrates our commitment to our people.

Whether you are at school and unsure of your next move, are looking to study a Level 7 Apprenticeship to top up an existing qualification, or simply want a change in career direction, we’d like to hear from you.

Apprentice recruitment

Each year we recruit Apprentices across our UK offices which span 16 locations.

Our Apprentices start in September each year, and ahead of joining you'll have the opportunity to learn more about our firm, what we are working on and how to prepare for your apprenticeship. You will also meet some of your fellow Apprentices from across the UK, connect with your team and colleagues, and begin creating your Arup network.

From the moment you start, you’ll also have the support of your manager, your mentor and your education provider.

  • Application review by a recruiter
  • Psychometric & ability assessments

  • A competency-based online Assessment Centre. These may vary depending on the role, but you’ll be given more information when you’re invited to attended.

I am interested in applying to the Arup Apprenticeship programme. When will applications open?

Our apprenticeship programmes will be open for new applications in November.

In the meantime, you can register your interest by joining our talent community. We'll then reach out to you with more information about our vacancies once they have been opened.

When is your deadline for applications?

We process applications as soon as we receive them and so we strongly advise candidates to submit early applications.

Will accommodation be provided for the apprenticeship, or will I receive financial support to relocate?

Our apprenticeships are full time roles which come with a salary. Just like any other job, you’re expected to choose a location that’s suitable for you, and your salary is provided for you to cover your living costs.

How many application forms can I submit?

You can only complete one application during each recruitment period, so please only apply for the position that suits you best. Additional applications will be regretted. Please check that you meet the minimum entry requirements and the eligibility critera as stated on the job advert.

What is the structure of the Apprentice Assessment Session

You’ll virtually meet the hiring team and recent apprentices, take part in a case study exercise and an interview. You will also meet with a member of the Early Careers Team to discuss learning, development, rewards and benefits. Assessment centres may vary depending on the role, but you’ll be given more information in your invite.

When will I be expected to start work?

Most of our apprentices start work in September to attend our welcome event alongside their peers.

What do I do if I have a disability or learning difference which may affect my performance during the selection process?

Arup is committed to making all stages of our recruitment process accessible to candidates with disabilities. We strongly encourage you to share any adjustments that will support your participation in our recruitment process.

You’ll get the chance to tell us about any disability or learning difference on your application form and before coming to the assessment. We’ll then make the appropriate arrangements for you. The information gathered during this process is only used to make reasonable adjustments and is not considered in any other context of your application.

What can I expect to do as an apprentice?

As an apprentice, you’ll study at a local college or university on day release, working towards an accredited qualification and combine this experience with workplace learning.

Whichever your chosen apprenticeship, you’ll be given a mentor who’ll guide you through your professional and personal development. You’ll also have regular contact with our Learning and Development team.

Will I have to reapply once I finish my apprenticeship?

All our apprenticeships are fulltime permanent positions, there is a 6 months’ probation period which we will ensure you have the skills and support needed to pass.

Which college/university will I be attending as part of my course?

We work with a number of educational institutions across the UK, and we ensure we can select the best possible provider to meet the needs of the role, as well as ensuring the location is in as close proximity to your location as possible. When you will need to travel to attend classes, we will ensure you are given suitable time to do this.

What vacancies are available at which location?

As we work in multidisciplinary offices, there are various roles available in each of our 16 UK locations. These locations are; Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham, Whitehaven, Winchester and York.

Can I use AI powered writing assistants during the application process

We know that AI powered writing assistants can help you improve content and save time, however during our application process we would kindly ask you to refrain from using these tools. Our application process is designed so we can learn about your interests, background and aspirations – and to do this, we want to hear from you directly in your responses.
