Improving community and environmental welfare is core to New Zealanders. These are values also uniquely woven into Arup’s purpose, and it’s through these shared values that we partner with clients to offer much more than just engineering consulting – we help shape a better world.

Our presence in Aotearoa New Zealand has spanned over 30 years, across a range of multidisciplinary services across city-shaping projects. From designing iconic buildings as the Auckland Savings Bank (ASB North Wharf) and North Harbour Stadium to helping Christchurch rebuild after a series of devastating earthquakes – our fingerprints and connections are woven into New Zealand landscape and communities.

Today, with offices in Auckland and Wellington, we are a tight-knit team of 80 people supported by a global collective of 18,000 people.

What sets us apart is our ownership model, allowing us to put clients at the heart of everything we do. We are held in trust for staff, so we are driven by choosing the right partnerships, not by shareholder return. Our organisational structure and cultural integrity allows us to truly live by our values and put our clients and communities first.

Shaping a better world is more than just a slogan to us. It’s the way we think and work. What’s unique is that it isn’t new to us – social usefulness, connectedness and total design was embedded in our values and operations by our founder in the 1970s, decades before other companies.

With an active role in future proofing Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland for a bright, resilient future. We took on a key role for the Central Interceptor, the largest wastewater project in New Zealand’s history, designed to safeguard the environment and people of Auckland.

We have helped Southern Auckland explore a new economic and urban future by creating an economic masterplan for this emerging part of the city – the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Our very own home at Living Arup, 15 Galway Street, Hayman Kronfeld Building, is a sustainable workplace celebrating our values and connection to Māori culture and values. In collaboration with Unispace and cultural advisors at Te Manu Taupua, we co-created the welcoming workplace and are pursuing the Living Building Challenge, a globally recognised certification from the International Living Futures Institute for sustainable and regenerative buildings.
