The Telkom Tower - a simple, slim form design and construction - iconic in the skyline of Johannesburg today.

Our first office opened in South Africa in 1954 by Jack Zunz and Michael Lewis. Since then, we have continued to showcase our expertise in design, planning and execution in the built environment across Africa; whilst upholding our commitment to developing sustainable communities. Our African Cities research ties in with on-the-ground urbanisation projects, enabling us to offer total design solutions. These include integrated building design, transport and logistics planning; large infrastructure; property solutions; and energy strategies.

Our South African teams work closely with other Arup teams worldwide, giving clients access to the full range of our global skills and experience. We deliver global knowledge, locally.

Durban

Home to Africa's best managed and busiest port, Durban has seen a rapid growth in both population and commercial and industrial activity since Arup’s office first opened in the city in 1958. We have contributed to many landmark buildings across KwaZulu-Natal, including the award-winning Mr. Price Distribution Centre.

Shaping the skyline

Over the decades our multi-disciplinary team has helped with the transformation of the region. We have built a reputation as the consultant of choice in the new commercial hub of Umhlanga with projects such as Park Square, an integrated mixed-use campus.

Specialist advice

In addition to our integrated engineering offering, our transport and environmental consultants provide clients with upfront advice regarding project feasibility and due diligence together with addressing regulatory requirements. Projects include the environmental approvals for various mixed-use and industrial developments as well as transport planning for the Ntshongweni Urban Development.
