Coal Drops Yard – Transforming a disused industrial space into a vibrant shopping destination with high-quality public realm.

Arup was founded by Ove Arup in 1946. Today, we are 6,000 strong in the UK, working on local, national and international projects. We are a professional services firm with a focus on the built environment and we work closely and collaboratively with our clients to develop the solutions they need today – and tomorrow. We bring deep expertise in strategy, design, planning and engineering, and our project portfolio ranges from the UK Government’s heat decarbonisation programme, to the design of new cancer treatment centres and playing a central role in engineering a more resilient rail network.

As Arup’s second largest office in the UK, Birmingham is home to almost 1,000 engineers, designers, digital specialists and technical advisors. We have made major contributions to the regeneration of the Midlands region and the city of Birmingham since 1968, including the development of Brindley Place, Eastside City Park and more recently Paradise Birmingham. Working with local, national and international clients, collaborators and investors our people bring creativity and innovation to all we do.

Our multi-disciplinary team is transforming the Alexander Stadium into a multi-use venue with a sustainable legacy, and we are advising on the UK’s largest university arts and media broadcast centre at Birmingham City University. Our Midlands experts provide industry-leading proprietary software as well as strategic advice and design for sectors such as social infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and energy. Our Birmingham office is home to one of our largest rail and highway design teams, shaping our transport systems across the UK, exemplified through our work on HS2, the UK Autodrive autonomous vehicle programme and our advice to National Highways on a more sustainable Strategic Road Network.
