Arup has been in the Boston area since 1998, providing engineering, consulting, and planning for the built environment, including existing buildings, smart infrastructure, energy planning, and transportation solutions. While the office has traditionally focused on building engineering services (structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering) and code consulting/fire engineering, in recent years our areas of expertise have expanded to include numerous design services, including climate risk and resiliency, civil engineering, commissioning, lighting design, acoustics, sustainability consulting, and wellness consulting.

Local projects include the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, launched to help revitalize Boston’s Dudley Square; Partners Healthcare Resiliency Masterplan and Implementation Strategies; the John W. Olver Transit Center, the first net-zero energy transit center in the United States; Northeastern University Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Complex, an award winning high-performance building that exemplifies the combination of design aesthetics and sustainability; and various projects for Massachusetts DOER, MIT and Amgen manufacturing facilities. In addition, Arup’s Boston office is currently involved as the owner’s design professional on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line Extension, where we previously worked with the client to develop a cost-effective solution to move the project into the design phase. This extension provides the first direct rail link to two of metro-Boston’s two densely populated and underserved areas.

Arup’s office at 60 State Street was designed to minimize ecological impact, plan for operational excellence, and foster a diverse environment where employees thrive. The space is certified LEEDv4 ID+C Platinum, WELL Gold, and has a Fitwel 3-Star Rating.
