Arup has been active in Los Angeles for more than 30 years, providing engineering, consulting, and planning services on a wide array of projects across several sectors, with a strong focus on how our work contributes to more sustainable, just, and inclusive communities in Southern California and around the world.

Arup’s contributions to the greater Los Angeles area cover a broad range of building uses and design specialties. Recent transformational projects include the redevelopment of the Long Beach Civic Center, where we advised the City in the selection of a development partner to deliver a modern, high-performing public facility, and the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, for which we contributed bridgecivil, geotechnical, and seismic engineering services as well as construction engineering support. In addition, our engineers, designers, and planners are helping Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and its airlines respond to growth and change in the aviation industry through a range of projects, while also working to progress transit-oriented developments, including Culver City’s Ivy Station completed in the fall of 2021.

A long-time leader in arts and culture sector, our Los Angeles team is helping realize the California Science Center’s new Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, the permanent home of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. We also provided a range of engineering and technical services for the recently completed Audrey Irmas Pavilion, a modern new addition that expands the Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s physical presence in one of Los Angeles’ main civic and cultural hubs.

Supporting Southern California’s commitment to research and innovation, Arup is providing engineering design services for the UCSD Viterbi Family Vision Research Center, which is designed to be a zero site-carbon-emissions, all-electric research facility supporting the client’s objective of “building a future free from eye disease.” As a leader in sustainability and sustainable development, Arup provided consulting services for the LA Green New Deal, which outlines the City’s goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050, and served as the lead designer on Bradley Plaza Green Alley, a project which reclaimed an underutilized alley in Pacoima, California into a resilient community space.

Our Los Angeles office is located in the heart of downtown with a state-of-the-art environment that promotes creativity, wellness, integrated design, and inclusivity of staff with a specific focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. Our office also features a combined SoundLab and ExperienceLab, bringing together fully immersive audio and visual environments, where Arup delivers multi-sensory simulations of existing or unbuilt spaces, to allow project clients, collaborators, and stakeholders to make better informed design decisions.
