When we walk, in addition to our weight, we create a repeating
pattern of forces as our mass rises and falls. This creates
a vertical fluctuating force of around 250 N (55 lbs) which
repeats with each step.
There is also a small sideways force caused by the sway of
our mass as our legs are slightly apart. This force, of around
25 N (5.5 lbs), is directed to the left when we are on our
left foot and to the right when we are on our right foot and
repeats with every second step.
