Supporting the Liverpool Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo

30 April 2010

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the firm’s Liverpool office, Arup is supporting the Liverpool Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

With ‘Better city, better life’ as its theme, the Shanghai World Expo is expecting over 70m visitors between May and October 2010.

Liverpool is the only UK city to have a dedicated space at the Expo. The city’s impressive track record in urban regeneration will be highlighted, along with five other themes during the six months of the event. Arup joins Peel Holdings as backers of the pavilion.

Garry Banks, director, said: “We are thrilled to be able to expand Liverpool’s offer at the World Expo 2010. The fact that Liverpool has a dedicated presence at this event says a great deal about the ambitions of the city.”

Arup has played an important role in preparing host cities for global events, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics. For the Shanghai World Expo 2010 the firm worked on site masterplanning and successfully delivered the Denmark Pavilion, Korea Pavilion and Singapore Pavilion.

The firm also provided structural design review for the UK Pavilion and was invited to join the expert advisory panel for the façade design of the China Pavilion.
