Arup wins at British Business Awards 2010, China

16 September 2010

Arup has won the Sustainability Award at the British Business Awards 2010, which recognises the firm's achievements in promoting a sustainable business model that makes a positive impact on economic development, the environment and society.

Arup was chosen because they are a firm with green DNA rather than a coat of 'greenwash'. They incentivise staff to think green within the company.... This sustainable thinking impacts client work. As the construction industry is one of the most important in China, this ultimately has low carbon repercussions for the country. Clare Pearson, Lead judge

Organised by the British Chambers of Commerce in China, the British Business Awards recognise and promote excellence in innovation, enterprise and endeavour in the British business community in China. The VIP Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner, held on 7 September in Shanghai, was attended by a host of VIPs including His Royal Highness, The Prince Andrew, Duke of York, Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.

The Sustainability Award seeks to recognise organisations who have demonstrated a commitment to the building of a sustainable business in China. Arup was selected from five strong finalists, following submission screening and an interview with the judging panel.

This award clearly validates Arup’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. We are proud to be at the forefront of creating a resilient society that is socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. This endorsement will further encourage us to put our best efforts to ensure our contribution leaves a long-lasting, positive legacy. LM Lui, Arup's East Asia Chairman

With sustainability at the heart of everything they do, Arup is pooling its global expertise in sustainable design and planning to help shape a more sustainable future.

In China, the firm is pioneering to deliver the country’s first green buildings, low carbon communities and sustainable infrastructure. It also partners with local governments and organisations to empower people to change the way they live.

Some of Arup’s projects have made significant impact on the Chinese government’s approach to developing a low carbon economy.
