A record number of manufacturers and engineering companies exhibited at LCV2011, which took place at Rockingham Race Circuit in Northamptonshire on 7 – 8 September 2011.

Arup’s stand mixed serious messages about our expertise in low-carbon transport (PDF, 1MB) with the fun of a slot-car racing game which brought out the competitiveness in visitors.

Showcasing the firm’s work on low carbon vehicles, Arup exhibited and presented at LCV 2011.

Presentations were made by Arup’s industry experts Associate Director Neil Butcher, Associate Director Susan Claris of the infrastructure delivery team of the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and Director Peter Young from Arup’s Advanced Technology and Research practice.

Mr Butcher’s presentation revealed how the data gathered on driver behaviour and charging habits, as part of the UK’s largest LCV trial (CABLED), is helping businesses and government develop the best strategy for their successful deployment.

Susan Claris shared the latest learnings and strategic direction of the government’s Plugged-in Places programme – the key mechanism for rolling-out EV recharging infrastructure and providing learning to inform the future development of a national network.

The final session of the day saw Peter Young discussing the implications of mass EV adoption and – informed by Arup’s management of the CABLED project – the factors that society, governments and infrastructure providers will need to consider and plan for in the future.
