Community partnering website launches

14 October 2011

Arup in Australasia has launched new www.arupcommunity.org website

Arup’s active engagement with humanitarian and charitable causes is a defining feature of the firm.

Arup’s contribution is a global effort and as part of this the Australasia region has been undertaking significant activity following some of the worst disasters to hit this part of the world in many years.

Following floods in Queensland, fires in Victoria and earthquakes in New Zealand, Pakistan and the Solomon Islands, Arup has been heavily involved in rebuilding activities, providing a raft of specialist help from structural engineering advice, water and sanitation analysis, to providing geotechnical assistance in Canterbury, New Zealand.

Beyond the immediacy of disaster recovery efforts, we have also been helping create better futures for communities in Nepal, Africa and Cambodia through local build programs. Later this year we will embark on a similar build project in Vietnam and send staff on a learning and education experience in rural India.

Arup's community partnering website shares stories and information about this work as well as work undertaken by our strategic partners.

Peter Bowtell, the board’s representative for our Community and Causes program in the Australasia Region, said:

“This site is dedicated to sharing the experiences of our community partnering programme. I hope it will enable others to see that everyone can make a difference in whatever way they choose to contribute, be it through money, time or sharing of their professional experience in a way that benefits others.

“I hope this site helps others to imagine how they too can mobilize their resources and actively engage with the community. If the sharing of our experiences helps others in some small way, then it will have been successful.”
