Dublin T2 wins at Structural Awards

23 November 2011

Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2 wins best transportation structure at the Structural Awards.

The Structural Awards recognise and reward the work of the world’s most talented structural designers, and showcase the industry's leading projects.

As lead consultants on Dublin Airport’s T2, Arup provided planning, design and project management consultancy. Architects Pascall+Watson, construction managers Mace and independent cost consultant Davis Langdon PKS completed the project team.

Able to accommodate up 15m passengers per year, the terminal has been designed around the needs of customers at what is now the tenth largest airport in Europe for international traffic.

Designing an airport terminal to host an average of 30,000 passengers a day is no mean feat, as is managing the development close to another remaining in constant use. However the rapid turnaround of the planning and construction process set a new standard for similar projects in the future.

Also a winner on the night, the Port Phillip Estate Winery in Victoria, Australia took the ‘Process Structures' prize. The 3100m², two-level mixed-use facility includes wine production and storage areas, a cellar, office accommodation and function rooms. Arup provided structural and fire engineering services.
