Arup is hosting a Mapping People in Space workshop as part of the Pause Digital Festival in Melbourne on Saturday 10 November at 6pm and on Sunday 11 November at 10am.
Facilitated by Francesco Anselmo (Arup, London) and Aaron Tan (University of Melbourne), the workshop will investigate sensing networks and location-based services; providing an overview of location-based services and tracking systems and an introduction to mesh networking. These include RFID (radio frequency identification), NFC (near field communication) standards, wi-fi and bluetooth hacking as well as sniffing with Arduino. Participants will be creating a building-wide proximity sensing network with Synapse RF100 and Processing.

The Digital Innovation workshop allows Arup to link up a number of initiatives including our Activity Based Working pilot, Office Realtime and various client conversations around real-time space utilisation.
Pause Fest is Melbourne’s digital festival, presented as a series of events held annually over the second week in November.
