Arup will monitor compliance with goals and objectives for the New Bridge for the St. Lawrence Corridor Project set forth by Infrastructure Canada during design, construction, and operations phases.

Due to an accelerated schedule, the New Bridge for the St. Lawrence project will break ground this summer and is expected to open in December of 2018. The rest of the corridor is expected to be in service by the end of 2020. Arup’s mandate will cover a period of approximately seven years, with three one-year option periods, for a total contract value of $20.4m.

To date, Arup has been charged with overseeing the government of Canada’s interests and making sure its project goals and objectives are met, specifically the delivery of a new bridge by December 2018. We have worked hard to ensure that the design and construction of the project will be sustainable and of a high-quality and that the New Bridge for the St. Lawrence is a fitting gateway to the City of Montreal.

"The selection of engineering experts to support our team demonstrates our commitment to delivering a safe, reliable, long-lasting bridge, constructed in a timely, cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. The New Bridge for the St. Lawrence corridor project is progressing well and is on target to meet all planned deadlines. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2015."Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec in a news release issued on February 23, 2015.

This complex infrastructure project will provide users with a stunning bridge designed to last 125 years. Together with Infrastructure Canada, the Arup team has sought to enhance the facilities for pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users, thus helping the Montreal region to realize their aspirations to improve connectivity. The work to date also ensures that a light rail connection to the South Shore can be realised, should this option be selected.

Additionally Arup is providing project monitoring activities, and verifying the compliance, quality and integrity of the work performed by the independent engineer.
