Arup has been appointed for the feasibility study on developing Hong Kong’s first smart city district.

This is a flagship project and the first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong, following the Government’s visionary strategy to develop Hong Kong into a leading digital city. It will seek ways to transform Kowloon East, an old district including the decommissioned Kai Tak Airport and the surrounding industrial areas, into a new sustainable CBD to support economic growth and strengthen the city’s global competitiveness.

As the lead consultant of this 18-month feasibility study, our tasks include formulating a smart city framework, proof of concept trials, implementation strategy, business model; and advising on a centralised digital infrastructure and cyber security to support internet of things (IoT) and big data application. Our team will be supported by IT experts including IBM and Ericsson.
