Vejle Kommune, supported by Arup, has released its City Resilience Strategy, working together with 100 Resilient Cities – pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC).
The Strategy sets the agenda for Vejle, Denmark, to build its long-term capacity to survive and thrive, no matter the chronic stresses and acute shocks the city experiences.
Developed through a highly collaborative process which engaged the municipal government, businesses and citizens, the Strategy addresses core shocks and stresses that were identified as priorities for the city: climate change and flood risk, urban growth and demand for smart and inclusive infrastructure, economic and industrial change, demographic changes and social cohesion.

Vejle’s challenges are addressed through four strategic pillars (co-creation, smart infrastructure and climate and social resilience) which frame 12 goals and 100 resilience actions that the city intends to implement from 2016.
The city is pursuing a vision to turn its current challenges into opportunities, to become an innovative lighthouse that demonstrates how small cities can solve big problems and show great responsibility, a cohesive, robust and sustainable city.
The release took place during a week of activities across the city, including formal events together with performances by schools and community groups.
Arup has been working with 100RC since 2013 and is currently working as Strategy Partner with 11 cities in the network.
Arup’s work with 100RC builds on our leadership in the field of city resilience. Our work with The Rockefeller Foundation on the development of the City Resilience Framework (CRF) and City Resilience Index (CRI) forms the basis of 100RC’s approach to resilience.
