The Dutch National Transport Authority, Rijkswaterstaat, has appointed Arup as the technical advisor for the construction of the new A16 highway north of Rotterdam.

The new 11km long roadway will provide better accessibility of the region and the centre of Rotterdam, helping release the traffic pressure of the lower road network. Key to the projects are the long-term planning and the technical complexity. Arup is involved in the preparatory phase (output specifications), the dialogue phase which supports the tender process and the design phase (technical support) of the Design Build Finance and Maintain contract (DBFM).

The A16 Rotterdam is an important project because of the social relevance, the complexity and the large scale of activities. We are looking forward to collaborating with Rijkswaterstaat and the stakeholders to create a safe and accessible Netherlands. ” Sander den Blanken Amsterdam Officer Leader

The new route will connect the A13 (highway exit Berkel Rodenrijs) to the A16 at the Terbregse Square.

The phases mentioned are expected to take more then three years and will be followed by the actual construction of the A16.
