Civil + Structural Engineer Magazine named Clayton Binkley and Janice Mochizuki Structural Engineering Rising Stars.

Arup’s Clayton Binkley, based in our Seattle office, and Janice Mochizuki, from our San Francisco office, were recognised as exceptional professionals 40 years old or younger who are experts in their field.

The Rising Stars in Structural Engineering programme features engineers working in the US who demonstrate exceptional technical capability, leadership ability, effective teaching or research, and public service benefiting the structural engineering profession, their employers, project owners, and society.

Clayton is a structural engineer with a background as an artist and metal fabricator and an ability to synthesise design solutions across diverse disciplines. He has developed specific areas of expertise including design and construction with exotic materials such as stainless steels, bronze, and high-strength synthetic fibres; and software development for linear and non-linear structural and geometric analysis and optimisation.

Janice has a depth of professional experience in structural engineering that is highlighted by her ability to convey concepts of gravity and seismic design in a way that is clear to architects and engineers in other disciplines. Through her project work and volunteer work with students at levels ranging from primary through graduate school, Janice emphasises the importance and elegance of well-coordinated architectural and structural design and construction.
