Arup in Hong Kong marks 40th anniversary with a cause

It’s like celebrating one’s birthday – certainly a time to reflect on the past, but more importantly to look into new possibilities ahead. As a major player in the built environment, we believe that with the huge influence comes the great responsibility – to explore the way forward and make our city a better place to work and live with the future leaders of our city. ” LM Lui Director

The dedicated event, themed ‘Our Future City’, was held on 22 April at The Rotunda, Exchange Square, Central, attracting more than 200 guests from across sectors including senior government officials, clients and working partners.

Through a unique live performance of visual, light and sound, Arup pointed an overarching direction to design future cities – Smart Green Resilient, and navigated visitors through different aspects of future urban living, from buildings and transport to energy and air quality.

The event also witnessed the kickoff of the yearlong ‘20+20’ mentorship programme. Under the scheme, 20 Arup staff will be mentors to 20 Secondary 5 students, giving advice and guidance on education and career goals. In a series of meet-ups, creative workshops and shadowing activities, the students will be exposed to the engineering profession and wider community and develop a vision for their own future. Outstanding students will also receive scholarships to continue their higher education.

This is another step in our ongoing endeavour to make a difference in communities and live our value of being socially useful. As the programme name indicates, our past 40 years is a journey that we have shared with the local community, and we will continue to shape a better future by assisting in the development of our future leaders. ” Wilfred Lau Wilfred Lau
