Sludge Treatment Facility in Hong Kong, Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre and Riverside 66 in Tianjin, all designed and engineered by Arup, have received top accolades at the Structural Excellence Awards 2016.

Organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Joint Structural Division, the award scheme recognises excellence in structural engineering and achievement by structural engineers in Hong Kong.

Sludge Treatment Facility, Hong Kong

Sludge Treatment Facility received the Grand Award in the Hong Kong projects category. It is a self-sufficient and sustainable solution to dispose of 2,000 tonnes of sewage sludge per day at maximum capacity. The incineration process will reduce the volume of sludge by up to 90%, relieving the burden on our limited landfills. Heat generated from incineration is recovered for power generation using steam turbines to fully meet the energy needs of the facility. Surplus electricity will be exported to the regional electricity grid.

Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre

Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre, scooped the top accolade in the Mainland/overseas projects category. Standing at 530m with 111 floors, this high-end mixed-use development is the tallest in Guangzhou and the fifth tallest in the world at the time of topping out. The outrigger and eight mega column design of the superstructure is setting a precedence for seismic design for super-tall buildings in China.

Riverside 66, Tianjin

Riverside 66, Tianjin has won the Merit award in the Mainland/overseas projects category. The ‘super shell’ of this top-notch retail facility is constructed from 22 7-storey high structural ribs each about 100m long with a unique geometry, and over 10,000 panels of glass. Stretching over 375m, it is one of the longest standalone structures in China.
