Senior Engineer, John Collins, has been recognised as Young Engineer of the Year by the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) runs a prestigious programme of grants and prizes to support and celebrate the pursuit of engineering activities. This award recognises individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the early stage of their career.

John joined Arup’s Leeds office in 2007 after graduating from Durham University and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the technical aspects of bridge engineering and design. Nine years on, he is one of the youngest top suspension bridge engineers in the UK and his expertise is increasingly in demand. John has applied his skills to high profile and challenging projects including the Humber Bridge, the Forth Road Bridge and the London 2012 Olympic Park.

This award is deserved recognition of John’s outstanding achievements, which are especially impressive considering he has so much of his career still ahead of him. His passion for engineering has been exemplified by his work on the Humber Bridge ‘A Frame’ replacement project. Throughout, John demonstrated excellent problem solving abilities, backed by an outstanding level of technical skill and an ability to create collaborative working relationships with everyone involved.
