Ten Arup projects were among the lauded top 50 engineering achievements at The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) Golden Jubilee Gala Dinner on 1 July 2016.

In celebration of Singapore’s Jubilee Year and five decades of engineering innovations, IES launched Engineering Feats @ IES-SG50. This national competition recognises the impact and transformations engineering achievements have had on our economy, society, and infrastructure since Singapore’s founding year.

Held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, the event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for The Environment and Water Resources, and Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office.

Featured among the top 50 engineering triumphs were iconic developments which Arup is proud to have contributed to: Downtown Line Bugis Station, ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands and the Marina Bay transformation, National Library Building, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Sports Hub, Singapore Flyer, and the construction of challenging MRT tunnels. These projects have played an integral role in transforming Singapore into the city-state it is today – a cosmopolitan and vibrant live-work-play global powerhouse.

We are very encouraged by this celebration and recognition of engineering excellence, and its importance to Singapore. It’s such an honour to be involved in so many of these engineering achievements that have contributed to decades of Singapore’s nation-building. In pushing the boundaries of engineering and design, we create the critical connections between people and places. This is especially palpable in a progressive city-state like Singapore, which has provided us with the dynamic environment to weave our innovations in shaping a sustainable and resilient city. ” Peter Hoad Peter Hoad Director, Resilience, Security and Risk
