Arup collaborated on both the Samsung America HQ and The Broad, named Projects of the Year by Engineering News-Record California.

After being named Regional Best Projects, both the Samsung America HQ and The Broad were selected from the pool of award winners as the Projects of the Year in Northern and Southern California respectively.

The Samsung America Headquarters (Device Solutions) was designed with communication and collaboration in mind. Organized to provide all occupants with easy access to outdoor courtyard space, these areas and column free atriums facilitate both break-out sessions and mental and visual breaks. Arup provided all engineering and consulting services, including structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and plumbing, to accomplish what one judge called a “feat of engineering.”

The Broad’s design is a 120,000ft2, LEED Gold museum housing over 2,000 works of art in tightly controlled environmental conditions. A combination of a honeycomb pattern of wall openings and 318 north-facing skylights bring diffuse daylight to the galleries while protecting the artwork from direct sunlight. Arup provided a wide range of engineering services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, gallery lighting and daylighting consulting for the project.
