Habitat for Humanity Australia, received funding from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), to implement an urban resilience initiative in order to help slum dwellers in Bangladesh.
Arup International Development, in collaboration with Architects Without Frontiers, worked with HfH Australia to design and deliver a three day training course for HfH Bangladesh and partner organisation staff. It introduced participants to the concept of urban resilience, the key characteristics of a resilient community and the factors to be considered when working with urban communities to build resilience.
The team undertook a needs assessment prior to the training, which provided the baseline for a training program that was focused on strengthening and supplementing existing capability.
We are continuing to provide strategic advice to HfH Australia on the design and implementation of a pilot project in the Milat Bihari refugee camp, Mirpur, Dhaka. This will enable us to test and refine the training for use by HfH in other countries.
